    Job Purpose

    The College Counselor Assistant will be involved in supproting the day-to-day college counseling functions that lead to accurate and successful college admission. The College Counselor Assistant will work closely with the school sites' administration team.


    Essential Duties and responsibilities, listed but not limited, below:


    • Help support our early college model and our students’ knowledge about options post high school.
    • This highly organized person will work with and be supervised by our college counselor.
    • Tasks that this person will be responsible for will include co-facilitating workshops for students interested in taking community college classes
    • Checking students grades who sign up for college courses and work with the students in college classes to insure they are attending tutoring if needed.
    • This person will also help the college counselor with SAT/ACT sign ups along with assisting college readiness teachers with accurate information about college for our ninth graders.
    • This person may also meet with students about college and current grade performance.
    • Overall this position will be in place to support and help expand our current college counseling department.
    • The hours are somewhat flexible but should take place during the school day.
    • Coordinates the PSAT
    •  Hold a community college course enrollment orientation once a semester for all interested students
    • Meets with 9th and 10th grade students to review graduation, university requirements and next semester’s schedule
    • Coordinates with 9th and 10th grade Advisory teachers to deliver lessons
    • Coordinates a Parent Institute
    • Co-coordinates to schedule all grades
    • Co-proctors AP exams
    • Co-coordinates parent workshops
    • Collect unofficial community college transcripts from students on a semester basis and file a copy of the transcripts in the student’s individual file (this violates FERPA)


    Team Member/Professional Development

    • Attend UC and CSU counselor conferences annually to receive recent information on university admission requirements.
    • Attend WACAC Conference and NACAC Conference
    • Attend all department meetings and functions

    Experience, Education & Skills Qualifications

    • Preferably has a bachelor’s degree but upper-division college students may be considered.
    • Interest in college counseling
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
    • Time and Project Management experience (plus)
    • Highly organized
    • Bilingual- preferable
    • Proficient in Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel
    • Self-starter
    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
