Human Resources Assistant

Partnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) is a non-profit charter school management organization designed to significantly increase college entrance and graduation rates for underserved students.
Our mission at PUC Schools is to develop and manage high quality charter schools in densely populated urban communities with overcrowded and low achieving schools. We create school programs and cultures that result in college graduation for all students. We uplift and revitalize communities through the development of educational and other supportive partnerships.
 
Job Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the HR Manager, the HR Assistant will assist in all areas of Human Resources. The team member in this role will have the opportunity to learn the multiple areas of HR.

Responsibilities

Compliance:

    • Conduct periodic audits of employee files, benefits, time off, etc
    • Follow up with schools/employees concerning missing documents

Hiring/Exiting Process:

    • Prepare new hire packets
    • Meet with new hires to collect new hire paperwork
    • Process paperwork for new hires
    • Download background results
    • Process exiting employees

Payroll:

    • Process payroll changes as directed by respective HR Representative 
    •  Complete and maintain payroll change log

Benefits:

    • Process new enrollments and terminations
    • Process invoices for Medical, Dental, Vision, FSA, Hartford, etc.

Misc.:

    • Schedule meetings
    • Clerical duties- composing letters, filing, copying
    • Maintain PTO  balances
    • Assist with  HR events
    • Gather data and produce reports
    • Assist with  office phones
    • Manage and enhance employee perks

Qualifications

Qualifications:

    • BA or BS or in process
    • Administrative experience preferred
    • 1-2 years of  HR experience desired
    • Intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. Publisher knowledge is a plus.

Skills:

    • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
    • Must be flexible and team-oriented
    • Detail oriented
    • Great customer service skills
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Team player
    • Excellent writing skills

Physical demands:

    • Will need to sit for extended periods of times
    • Picking,  pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling
    • Typing
    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.

Salary & Benefits:

    • Hourly rate of $13-$17
